Award-Winning Encryptonite ONE™ System’s latest platform extension supports standardized DVB Simulcrypt, providing unified content security for one-way networks and Hybrid Pay TV Services

NATICK, MA USA — IBC2008 PREVIEW — SecureMedia, the technology leader in open content protection software for secure video and multimedia delivery over IP networks, today announced SecureCast™, the newest platform extension to its award-winning Encryptonite ONE System. SecureCast offers complete support for standardized DVB Simulcrypt to provide low cost, software-based content security for one-way broadcast DVB services. With the addition of SecureCast, the Encryptonite ONE System also provides a unified content security system for hybrid pay TV services combining advanced interactive IPTV services with broadcast terrestrial, cable or satellite DVB services (i.e. DVB-T, DVB-C, DVB-S, DVB-H). The layering of IP-based content delivery on top of traditional broadcast pipes enables operators to grow their revenue through new interactive services such as Video-On-Demand (VOD), personal video recording and targeted advertising.

The Encryptonite ONE System provides robust content security for both DVB and IPTV services from a single server installation and provides a lightweight, processor-efficient decryption client that can be downloaded over the network and installed into previously deployed set-top boxes. Developed to leverage the power of two-way IP infrastructure, the Encryptonite ONE System provides a superior level of content protection than traditional smart card security systems used in broadcast cable and satellite operations. SecureCast can also be deployed to secure one-way broadcast networks.

Hybrid pay TV services are a rapidly growing sector of the pay TV landscape as DTT, cable and satellite operators look to improve their competitive positioning against a plethora of new video outlets. Consumers are increasingly demanding access to a broader range of television content without the restrictions of a broadcast schedule or limited recording and trick-play functionality. The cohesive integration of an interactive IPTV service with an existing DVB service becomes a necessary tool for retaining current subscribers and growing ARPU. To maximize the return on an IPTV investment and streamline operations, service providers need to deploy a content protection system like SecureMedia’s Encryptonite ONE System with SecureCast that protects both components of the hybrid network in a cost effective and efficient manner. With the longest deployment history of any software CA/DRM system, the Encryptonite ONE System is trusted by the Hollywood studios and leading content owners around the world and allows service providers to license the top VOD content and drive subscriber viewership.

“From product inception, SecureMedia has designed the Encryptonite ONE System to provide efficient and scalable content security across a variety of distribution platforms with secure broadcast and on-demand viewing on a wide variety of devices,” stated Fred Ellis, COO of SecureMedia. “The growth we are seeing in the adoption of hybrid pay TV systems is an acknowledgement of the growing importance of multiple program delivery pipes into the home, all of which can be secured by the Encryptonite ONE System. We are happy to introduce our latest security advancement to address this growth, SecureCast, which has been adopted by several accounts for deployment later this year.”

SecureMedia will be exhibiting at IBC2008, RAI Centre, Amsterdam in the IPTV Zone (Hall12) from 12 to 16 September 2008, (Stand IP214).
