BARCELONA, Spain — RMI Corporation, a leading provider of high-performance processors for communication and media rich applications, today announced that Digital Cube, Korea’s largest portable media supplier, has selected the Alchemy Au1300 Processor for its next generation platform. Digital Cube’s next generation platform will fuel its Mobile Internet Devices and Portable Media Players with high definition video playback and a rich 3D user interface.

The latest products from Digital Cube, T3 and D3 – the highest selling products in Korea – are the basis for these new multi-function Portable Media Players (PMPs) with WinCE 5.0 operating system and 8GB/16GB/32GB NAND flash memory. The media players from Digital Cube contain Standard Definition (SD) multiple video playback as well as audio playback capability with highly optimized power management giving users up to 10 hours video playback and 20 hours audio playback.

The new Digital Cube devices will utilize the game changing RMI Alchemy™ Au1300™ Processor Family, targeted at consumer devices requiring superior CPU performance, High Definition (HD) media capabilities and powerful 3D functionality. Digital Cube’s products will focus on multi-function PMPs and 3D navigation devices with WinCE 6.0 OS, 8GB to 32GB NAND flash memory and a 4 to 7 inch touch screen TFT LCD panel. The new products from Digital Cube will be available in the second quarter of 2009.

“We are pleased to announce RMI as our partner in our latest development for our mobile applications,” said Mr. CH Koh, a director of R&D, Digital Cube. “We have built a strong relationship with RMI and the strong multimedia capabilities, 3D performance, and low power on the RMI Au1300 Processor are what we have come to expect from the team and we look forward to continued success as we offer solutions from mini PMP products to high-end MID products on a single Au1300 platform.”

The Alchemy Au1300 Processor is the most advanced, highest performing integrated processor for portable media based applications, including Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs), Home Media Player® Devices such as Advanced Digital Photo Frames, 3D Personal Navigation Devices (PNDs), Portable Media Players (PMPs), Audio/Video Networking, thin clients and other multimedia devices. The Au1300 Processor takes advantage of RMI’s innovative architecture to extend the performance and enrich the media experience beyond that of previous generation devices, while maintaining overall system power rates of less than ½ watt. The Au1300 also delivers an enhanced Media Acceleration Engine™ (MAE2), providing hardware Bit Stream Acceleration and entropy decode that were formerly performed by the CPU core. This novel approach enables High Definition (HD) video decode at significantly higher bit rates than prior generation devices and also frees up additional CPU performance “headroom” enabling multi-tasking capabilities such as browsing, video chat and other communication features.

“We have had a long and prosperous relationship with Digital Cube, and we believe the innovation that they bring to their markets coupled with the advanced capabilities of the Au1300 family will continue to be a winning combination,” said Mike Wodopian, vice president and general manager, RMI. “By being able to offer a solution that extends the performance levels to 800MHz at under ½ watt full chip power, while maintaining pin and software compatibility, gives our customers a distinct advantage in being able to have a scalable product offering.”
