Türk Telekom Selects Envivio Encoding Platform for IPTV Service Launch

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — IPTV World Forum 2009 — Envivio Inc., the leading technology provider of IP video convergence encoding solutions from mobile to HD, today announced that its Convergence Series video headend has been selected for Türk Telekom’s IPTV project in Turkey. Türk Telekom, one of the world’s largest Tier 1 telecommunications operators serving more than 30 million customers, will use Envivio 4Caster™ C4 SD and 4Caster™ HD30 HD MPEG-4 AVC encoders and the 4Manager™ NMS, to deliver an extensive line-up of standard and high definition channels for its new IPTV service. Envivio will highlight its complete Convergence Series video headend at IPTV World Forum 2009 in London, March 25-27, Booth 312.

4Caster™ C4 from Envivio is the world’s first convergence encoder, providing video compression for all three screens of consumer video – TVs, PCs and mobile devices – on a single platform. Its high-availability hardware platform and ultra-flexible embedded software encoding core offer levels of service flexibility and encoding performance upgradeability not possible with traditional hardware-only encoding platforms. Envivio’s 4Caster™ HD30 delivers high quality, high definition encoded content at less than half the bit rates required by MPEG-2.

Envivio’s Convergence Series architecture allows MPEG-2 content downlinked from satellite to be delivered to the compression system directly over a local IP network. This all-IP, all-digital processing of content eliminates the need for traditional intermediate analog or digital video and audio interfaces between MPEG-2 decoders and MPEG-4 encoders, resulting in reduced cost and improved picture quality. Service reliability is ensured using an M:N automatic redundancy system controlled by the Envivio 4Manager Network Management System.
