MIPS Technologies Continues to Gain Traction in Portable Market with Multimedia Phone Design Win

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — MIPS Technologies, Inc. (NasdaqGS: MIPS), a leading provider of industry-standard architectures, processors and analog IP for digital consumer, home networking, wireless, communications and business applications, today announced that Mavrix Technology, Inc., a fabless semiconductor company developing complete SoC solutions for the emerging Mobile Digital TV (MDTV) and portable multimedia market, licensed its MIPS32® 4KEc® synthesizable processor core for next-generation media processor designs.

According to market research firm IDC, worldwide mobile phone semiconductor revenue is expected to grow to $43 billion in 2012. According to the firm, connectivity and other multimedia related semiconductor content will continue to be primary drivers of revenue growth as mobile phone functionality continues to expand. IDC forecasts 62% CAGR worldwide from 2008 to 2012 for revenue from mobile phones with mobile TV functionality(1).
