LAS VEGAS — NAB 2009 — Verimatrix, setting the standard in content security technologies that enhance the value of pay-TV networks, today announced that ZillionTV has deployed the Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS™) for IPTV to secure its on-demand library of programs delivered over an IP connection and streamed directly to the television. Streaming content over an IP network presents a challenging environment to protect high-value entertainment. Software-based VCAS for IPTV provides the encryption required to protect the content from widespread piracy and enable a wide choice of consumer viewing options. Verimatrix is showcasing the advantages of VCAS for IPTV at NAB 2009, booth #C1754.

The ZillionTV™ service, launched in March 2009, is expected to offer 15,000 titles from Hollywood studios and TV networks available through the ZillionTV™ Device, innovative motion-sensing ZillionTV™ Remote control and a high-speed Internet connection. In addition, viewers have the option of watching targeted and addressable ad-supported content for free, rent content for a nominal fee, or “buy to own,” depending upon what options are offered by each content owner tied to each specific program.

“Content security is an essential, foundational element of the ZillionTV Service, as our content partners must be assured that their assets are well protected. Verimatrix brings us best-in-class content security,” said Mike Catalano, chief technology officer, ZillionTV Corporation. “VCAS for IPTV offers the flexibility to adapt to our device architecture and enables a distributed delivery infrastructure, while also providing a transparent viewing experience for consumers.”

VCAS for IPTV was configured to work in conjunction with the ZillionTV Service’s state-of-the-art IPTV middleware that includes specific methods of entitlement for a secure viewing experience. Award-winning VCAS for IPTV is a software-based security system for broadband entertainment networks that can be transparently updated as required to combat evolving piracy concerns.

“The ZillionTV deployment is an excellent example of how content security can help enable innovative business models, rather than limit them. The service combines the content, viewing and search options typically available only via the PC with the ease of use of the TV, plus the new targeted advertising model,” said Steve Oetegenn, chief sales and marketing officer, Verimatrix.

“Within this challenging platform, we were able to meet all the security requirements from the content owner, service provider and viewer perspectives.”
