1.3 million digital cable subscribers for Unitymedia
Thursday, May 14th, 2009COLOGNE — Unitymedia Group, Europe’s third largest cable-based media and communications services provider, today announced results for the quarter ended March 31, 2009.
Basic Cable Services
As of March 31, 2009, we provided our basic cable services to 4.6 million subscribers, or 52 percent of homes passed by our network. 29 percent of these basic cable subscribers had switched to digital access as of March 31, 2009.
Digital TV Pay Services
Our Digital TV Pay RGUs increased year over year by 110,000 from 485,000 to 595,000 as of March 31, 2009 reflecting increased take-up of our Digital TV Pay packages offset by some Bundesliga churn, which is also expected in the coming quarters.
In its Pay TV business the company continues its strategy to upsell advanced services from a growing digital base. Take-up for the new Digital Video Recorder has been encouraging even before full marketing campaigns in the second quarter.
