ViXS Signs RDK License, Brings Only Shipping 4K 10-bit HEVC SoC to RDK Based Service Operators

  • RDK license adds broadcast software stack to enhance World’s Only Shipping 10-bit 4K HEVC SoC and accelerates the deployment of next generation UltraHD/4K STBs and Home Gateways

TORONTO — ViXS Systems Inc. (TSX:VXS), a pioneer and leader in media processing solutions, today announced that it has become the first and only company with a shipping Ultra High Definition (UltraHD) 4K HEVC 10-bit solution to sign the Reference Design Kit (RDK) agreement from RDK Management, LLC. ViXS has formally joined the growing RDK community and will help drive the acceleration of the development of next generation UltraHD/4K Set Top Boxes (STBs), Home Media Gateways and video services.

The Reference Design Kit (RDK) is a pre-integrated, software bundle developed and licensed to create a common framework for powering IP or hybrid Set-Top Boxes and gateway devices for consumer electronics manufacturers, system-on-a-chip (SoC) vendors, software developers, system integrators and TV service providers. The RDK was developed to accelerate the deployment of next-generation video services and prevent software fragmentation by providing speed-to-market, collaboration and standardization. Supported by more than 120 licensees, RDK Management, LLC was formed as a joint venture between Comcast Cable and Time Warner Cable to administer the RDK.
