Realtek chip series to support playback of DivX Plus HD Video up to 1080p in the MKV container

SAN DIEGO and HSINCHU, Taiwan — DivX, Inc. (Nasdaq: DIVX), a digital media company, and Realtek Semiconductor Corp., one of the world’s leading network and computer peripheral integrated circuit (IC) providers, today announced at the IFA trade show a licensing agreement for next-generation DivX Plus™ HD technology. Under the agreement, Realtek will incorporate DivX Plus HD technology into the Realtek RTD1283/RTD1073 semiconductor chips, enabling devices to playback DivX Plus HD video in the MKV container at high-definition resolutions up to 1080p.

Only DivX Plus HD Certified devices support playback of DivX Plus content (H.264 video with AAC audio in an MKV file container) created with DivX® 7 software, while also supporting previous versions of DivX video up to 1080p and Hollywood content in the DivX format.

Known for developing DivX Certified® devices that offer great performance, interoperability and visual quality, DivX gives consumers a complete digital media solution for enjoying highly compressed, high-quality Internet video from the PC to the TV and beyond.

“Adding DivX Plus HD to our RTD1283/RTD1073 chip series for multimedia storage devices fits with our goal to offer high-performance features that make our chips a compelling choice in today’s competitive market place,” said Sam Chung at Realtek. “The new DivX Plus HD offering with H.264 technology support extends the DivX value proposition to the premier standard of high-quality video.”

“We are becoming the leading consumer solution for HD video in the H.264 format in much the same way we became the leader in high-quality MPEG-4 video,” said Eric Rodli, Executive Vice President, Licensing, at DivX. “Licensing agreements with IC companies such as Realtek, further our growth by supporting the introduction of DivX Plus HD Certified devices by our OEM partners.”
