SecureMedia protects Russia’s eminent supplier of converged service delivery platforms for interactive television over fixed and wireless networks

AMSTERDAM — IBC 2009 — SecureMedia, the technology leader in open content protection software for secure video and multimedia delivery over IP networks and SmartLabs LLC, a leader in service delivery platforms (SDP) for interactive digital television, innovative client applications and user interfaces for STBs, announced today the launch of the secure SmartTUBE PC Player, a fully customizable platform application extension to the popular SmartTUBE SDP Converged service delivery platform, protected by the SecureMedia’s Encryptonite ONE™ System. PC users will be able to enjoy the same high quality (MPEG-4 H.264) viewing experience “on the go” as they do from their home while service providers and broadcasters can extend or create new revenue-generating business opportunities.

Unique to this PC Player application and a testament to the flexibility of SmartLabs’ SmartTUBE SDP is its ability for dynamic UI customization that easily creates and automatically publishes the same interface and user experience for both STB and PC platform. The Encryptonite ONE™ System provides the non-stop content protection to enable access to the richest offering of premium digital content and video-on-demand services.

The SmartTUBE PC Player is a member of SmartLabs’ SmartTUBE UI, an innovative client applications based on available IPTV industry standards and universal cross-platform graphical engine, QT for Embedded Linux from Nokia, which supports a wide range of client devices, i.e. STBs, mobile multimedia devices, digital players, communicators, mobile phones, PCs, etc.

“Having has been chosen by the biggest IPTV service providers in Eastern Europe, SmartLabs LLC required a proven and flexible content security solution on PCs to meet our customer’s digital entertainment needs”, said Mikhail Grachev, CEO of SmartLabs LLC. “Opposite to existing protected PC players in the market created by non SDP specialty vendors that either use a proprietary technology, possess a very limited interface or lack of service customization access for third-parties, our SmartTUBE PC Player delivers service providers a full-functional PC Player with rich-animated user interface, all available IPTV services and now secured with a leading content protection software. We believe that now service providers can extend their services across different end-points to make entertainment experience more flexible for subscribers.”

“SmartLabs is a long time partner who continues to take advantage of new technology initiatives by extending their unified interactive TV delivery platform with exceptional innovations,” said Fred Ellis, COO of SecureMedia. “We are excited to supply the non-stop protection required for these current and new interactive entertainment developments and we especially prize our relationship and joint deployments.”

The award-winning Encryptonite ONE™ System is today’s proven multi-format, multi-platform CA/DRM software solution that provides the highest levels of digital content security while offering operational efficiencies and extended value. Approved by all major film studios and TV broadcasters, the Encryptonite ONE System allows telcos, broadband and cable operators to acquire distribution rights to the most compelling broadcast channels and VOD programming. Its unique system design features an ultra-light, processor-efficient client that can be deployed on virtually any consumer media appliance to allow ubiquitous secure content distribution on current and future set-top boxes, PCs, portable players and mobile phones. Employing a patented, common encryption scheme for both broadcast and VOD content and through its exclusive EverLock™ process, the Encryptonite ONE System is the only solution available today that enables persistent and efficient protection of content at all times in distribution and storage including in DVR and nDVR applications. Newest innovations include exclusive platform extensions that allow for selectable digital forensics to track, identify and deter piracy of valued content (IdentiFind™), support for DVB Simulcrypt enabling DVB-T,-C,-S and -H services (SecureCast™), rapid middleware integration to speed time-to-market (CodeConnect™), and configurable security parameters for diverse quality content (TrustAdjust™).

Both SecureMedia and SmartLabs LLC are members of the Open IPTV Forum, an organization whose mission is to maximize the benefits of IPTV for consumers by streamlining and accelerating deployments of IPTV technologies based on open standards.
