OpenTV Core3, with a Platform Designed to Enable Technology Choice, Sets New Standard in Open Architecture Middleware

AMSTERDAM — IBC 2009 — OpenTV Corp. (NASDAQ:OPTV), a leading software and technology provider of advanced digital television solutions, announced today OpenTV® Core3™, a pioneering approach to the delivery of advanced television services. Engineered to enable technology choice by operators, OpenTV Core3 combines a top-to-bottom open architecture with a unique design that simplifies the integration and deployment of everything from complex user interfaces to consumer services and application widgets.

“Core3 is not just another middleware platform; it’s a generational shift in middleware innovation,” said Ben Bennett, OpenTV’s Chief Executive Officer. “With Core3, OpenTV is reasserting its commitment to operator choice by providing a unique middleware architecture that is not only the most open and modular, but also embraces the latest industry standard for application development.”

OpenTV Core3 addresses the new challenges brought on by the explosion of digital content. Its open authoring environment builds on the reliability and experience of previous OpenTV middleware releases developed over the last 13 years, by further accelerating the deployment of third party applications and support for HTML/JavaScript, Adobe® Flash® as well as industry standards demanded by the marketplace. OpenTV Core3 will also offer an adaptable framework that enables operators to easily support new features and functionalities that may emerge in the future and also tailor their offerings based on local market requirements. This unique degree of openness will allow Pay-TV operators and third parties to innovate and leverage the most powerful tools for creating compelling user experiences without hindering engineering efforts and initiatives.

OpenTV Core3 is first expected to be available by mid-2010 to select customers.
