COFETEL releases Mexico quarterly pay TV numbers
Monday, September 7th, 2009Mexico’s Comisión Federal de Telecomunicaciones (COFETEL) has released second quarter 2009 figures for its Telecommunications Sector Production Index (Ãndice de Producción del Sector Telecomunicaciones – ITEL).
In the pay TV segment, satellite television (DTH) grew at its fastest rate since the end of 2006 with a rise of 13.2 percent, putting the number of subscribers at 1.692 million.
Cable TV grew at 9.2 percent versus the same quarter last year, with the number of users at 4.935 million.
Microwave TV (MMDS) recorded its sixth year-on-year decline since the end of 2007, falling 11.5 percent during the period, which left the number of households at 641 thousand at the close of June 2009.
