RAI broadcasts 4K at Prix Italia 2009

At Prix Italia 2009, the festival of television, radio and the web held in Turin, Radiotelevisione Italiana (Rai) showed the world premiere of ‘Torino 4K’, the first TV broadcast over the air in high definition at 4K resolution (4,096 x 2,160 pixels) – four times the resolution of current high definition (HD) and equivalent to 35mm film.
‘Torino 4K’, directed by Ariella Beddini, was produced by Direzione Strategie Tecnologiche Rai, with the Centro di Produzione Rai di Torino, in collaboration with NewCo Rai International’s new channel ‘Yes Italia’ and with sponsorship from the City of Turin.
