IRVINE, Calif. — Quartics, Inc. and CyberLink (5203.TW) today announced a partnership to enable the world-renowned PowerDVD player software with the new Qvu™ video processor. The result will bring a “Beyond HD” viewing experience to consumers using the industry-standard PowerDVD player software on Netbooks and Laptops. Qvu is the revolutionary video processor system-on-chip (SoC) from Quartics, which greatly improves both standard and high definition video content from a wide variety of sources including streaming media from sites such as YouTube, as well as Blu-ray and locally stored HD movies and games.

The Qvu-enabled PowerDVD system will be the world’s first media player to offer a “Beyond HD” experience to consumers. It will be demonstrated to OEMs and ODMs at CES 2010 by Quartics in a private meeting suite at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas. Those interested in a private viewing of the product at CES should contact Dan Davis at (949) 468-2222 or dan@quartics.com.

The market for providing consumers a high quality video experience on all manner of electronic devices is exploding. Accordingly, Quartics and CyberLink have collaborated to integrate their respective industry-leading video technologies and make them available to OEMs and ODMs globally. In a recent independently conducted consumer focus group, men and women between the ages of 25 to 40 identified a premium as high as $400 above the retail price for a Qvu-enabled HD TV, and between $50 to $100 more per Qvu-enabled Netbook.

“The collaboration with Quartics will enable us to deliver the world’s first Qvu-enabled PowerDVD videoplayer offering a ‘Beyond HD’ experience,” said Alice H. Chang, CEO of CyberLink. “We are happy to incorporate the best technologies in PowerDVD to offer our consumers the best video experience.”

“Our partnership with CyberLink leads the industry in providing consumers a superior video experience,” said Sherjil Ahmed, president and founder of Quartics. “We are excited at the benefits this offers consumers who can experience the same exceptional video quality on their portable and desktop devices that they have come to expect from their HD home theatre displays.”
