Secure Delivery of Premium Content Over Inuk’s Freewire Platform Provides Consumers Breakthrough TV Experience

AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS — Widevine Technologies, the world’s leading provider of downloadable content protection, forensic watermarking and digital copy protection solutions, today announced that UK-based Inuk Networks has chosen Widevine Cypher® for the PC to protect and enable its secure delivery of premium broadcast channels and video-on-demand content for its Freewire service — the nation’s first PCTV deployment launching this month.

The premier feature of Inuk’s Freewire platform is a virtual set top box solution that enables Inuk to deliver television to the PC with full PVR capabilities. All on-screen information and controls are displayed within a highly customizable electronic program guide for viewing on Windows or Mac based platforms.

“Inuk Networks brings to market a very innovative PC-based IPTV service with Freewire. Their selection of Widevine further demonstrates how comfortable Hollywood is with the depth of our PC protection capabilities. PC-based television delivery is fast becoming a critical component for offering innovative services that will expand a video operator’s footprint and grow their revenues significantly,” says Brian Baker, Widevine’s CEO.

ABI Research reports that PC for video entertainment is on the rise with approximately 300 million broadband PC users worldwide in 2007 and that some 70 percent of users surveyed preferred to watch broadband pay video on their PCs.

“We chose Widevine because they provide a multiplatform, multiformat downloadable conditional access and digital rights management solution with digital copy protection — a key requirement for licensing premium broadcast and Hollywood content for delivery to PCs,” said Inuk Networks’ CEO Marcus Liassides. “We evaluated the market and determined that only Widevine provided these critical features in a single content security solution which is easily integrated in the Freewire platform to support both our set top box and PC platforms, enabling our customers to watch TV on the device of their choice anywhere in the home.”
