Puts Image Quality First to Ensure that 3D Content Makes Bold and Lasting Impressions

LAS VEGAS — Envivio Inc. today began offering a public demonstration at NAB 2010 in which the company’s current-generation 4Caster™ C42 Three Screens video encoder delivers full-resolution, 1080p, stereoscopic 3D content. The scalable, flexible software architecture of the Envivio 4Caster C42 video delivery platform makes it uniquely suited to accommodate changes brought about by new standards such as the MVC extension to the MPEG-4 AVC standard. More information about the Envivio 3D demonstration is available at NAB 2010 (Booth SU4302), April 12-15 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“3D television is all about creating a stunning, immersive experience for the viewer, so the quality of the encoding and the resulting video are going to be defining factors for successful 3D services,” said Arnaud Perrier, Envivio VP of Solutions. “With this demonstration, Envivio is not only showing the excellence and performance capabilities of the 4Caster C42 encoding platform that we are delivering to customers today, but also that 3D content can be delivered efficiently to any capable device over existing networks.”

Unlike currently deployed “side-by-side” or “over-under” split image technologies that reduce the original resolution by half, the 4Caster C42 makes it possible to preserve and encode the full original image resolution in each eye, thus truly exploiting the maximum capabilities of the new generation of HD 3D displays. For bandwidth constrained networks, the high-efficiency MVC encoding engine of the 4Caster C42 delivers full 1080p 3D with significant bandwidth savings over simulcasting a pair of 2D streams, while maintaining backward compatibility with legacy 2D receivers.
