J:COM ends 1Q 2010 with 2,419,400 digital cable subscribers

TOKYO, Japan — Jupiter Telecommunications Co., Ltd. (JASDAQ: 4817), the largest multiple system operator (MSO) in Japan based on the number of customers served, has announced that the total subscribing households as of March 31, 2010 served by J:COM’s 23 consolidated franchises reached 3.29 million, up 112,000 or 3.5% since March 31, 2009. Combined revenue generating units (RGUs) for cable television, high-speed Internet access and telephony services reached 6 million, up 330,200 or 5.8% since March 31, 2009. The bundle ratio (average number of services received per subscribing household) increased to 1.82 as of March 31, 2010 from 1.78 as of March 31, 2009. The cable television digital migration rate as of March 31, 2010 increased to 93% from 82% as of March 31, 2009. *1 *2

*1 Since December 2008, J:COM subscriber figures have included former Mediatti Communications, Inc. (Mediatti) six systems subscribers. J:COM Tojo Co., Ltd. and Yokohama TV Corporation which are Mediatti subsidiary systems were moved onto the J:COM subscriber management system in March 2010. The impact of the integration resulted in decreases of 2,200 cable television subscription, 400 high-speed Internet access subscription and 2,600 RGU total in March.
*2 As a result of unification of RGU counting standards, a part of existing services (non J:COM services) provided by each consolidated system operators were newly added to the number of cable television subscribing households. The impact of the unification resulted in an increase of 2,600 cable television subscription in March, 2010.
