Arxan Chosen to Harden DRM to Protect Content and Business Models Across the Digital Ecosystem

LAS VEGAS — NAB Show – Arxan Technologies®, a leading provider of software security solutions that protect applications from attack in distributed or un-trusted environments, today announced that Widevine, a provider of digital entertainment solutions, has licensed Arxan’s application hardening and key protection solutions for its multiplatform digital rights management (DRM) platform. Widevine DRM provides Internet content services and large cable, satellite and telecommunication companies the capability to license, securely distribute and protect playback of premium Hollywood content on any consumer device. Arxan’s software security technology ensures that DRM systems, which govern access to digital entertainment, remain secure and robust so that content is protected and business models maintained.

Arxan’s application hardening and key protection offerings defend against tampering and reverse-engineering of code and intellectual property (IP) in a durable and proven manner that does not impact source code, application functioning or the development process. The company’s technology supports DRM standards and robustness rules for content protection, and safeguards revenue channels from piracy and unauthorized access across desktop, server and embedded applications.

“Our customers around the world rely upon Widevine DRM to securely deliver digital content to millions of consumers across multiple devices and screens, so providing the best content protection possible has always been paramount to us,” said Glenn Morten, Widevine chief technology officer. “As we proactively considered how to best enhance our anti-piracy protections, Arxan was simply the best choice for tamper resistance and application hardening across a number of dimensions, including strength of security, resilience, ease of use and non-impact to the code and application functionality. Having our DRM come pre-fortified means that our customers will be able to speed their time to market while minimizing their costs.”

The Widevine platform is deployed by major Internet content services and large cable, satellite and telecommunication companies launching “TV Everywhere” strategies. Widevine DRM will now come secured with Arxan’s GuardIT and TransformIT for secure online and offline viewing on PC and Mac-based platforms.

“Consumers today demand anytime, anywhere access to digital content. By hardening Widevine DRM directly, content owners gain peace of mind that their IP is protected, and media and service providers benefit from Arxan’s robust software security, while consumers continue to simply enjoy the entertainment,” said Mike Dager, chief executive officer of Arxan. “Our application hardening solutions secure leading DRMs, digital media applications and critical software from a broad spectrum of threats so that business models and innovation can continue unfettered.”
