Abertis Telecom and the Corporación Aragonesa de Radio y Televisión broadcast HDTV over DTT for the Autonomous Community of Aragón

Zaragoza — abertis telecom, the abertis group telecommunications infrastructure operator, will collaborate for the second consecutive year with the Corporación Aragonesa de Radio y Televisión (the Aragón Radio and Television Corporation) in TEA07, the International High Definition Cinema, Music and Television Week.

This encounter, which is being held from 25 June to 1 July at the Aragón Government’s Advanced Technologies Centre and at the Zaragoza Auditorium, brings together international experts in Digital Cinema and HDTV. The event will hear discussion on the current positioning of High Definition on the technological landscape and will host displays of digital cinema and HDTV via DTT, satellite and IP platforms.

The Corporación Aragonesa de Radio y Televisión will, with the collaboration of abertis telecom, be carrying out pilot HDTV broadcasts over the course of the entire week through the multiple DTT channel owned by it.

The broadcasts will be of own content in HD format, as well as of other third-party productions and cinema demonstration events, as well as programmes from the Aragón Televisión channel, following the new MPEG-4 (H264) encoding standard.

This programming, which will reflect the quality resulting from the collaboration between HDTV and DTT, will be shown on a number of screens located around the Zaragoza Auditorium and at the headquarters of Aragón television broadcaster.

The events scheduled for professionals will include talks by leading international industry experts. abertis telecom Technology Director, Pedro Linares will appear in the Zaragoza Auditorium on 28 June to give a talk entitled “HD on DTT: the technical bases”, demonstrating the experience the telecom infrastructure operator, which has been a strong supporter of cutting-edge audiovisual technology from its very beginnings.

abertis telecom has worked on HDTV since is very beginnings and, last year, carried out a number of test broadcasts: in the city of Mérida, to coincide with the World Cup in Germany, and as part of TEA06, the International High Definition Cinema, Music and Television Week.

It leads the implementation of Digital Terrestrial Television in Spain, with a DTT network of more than 160 centres that provides coverage for more than 80% of the Spanish population.

abertis telecom forms part of the Foro HDTV (HDTV Forum) recently created by Spain’s Ministry for Industry, Tourism and Trade as a meeting point for leading industry players, with the aim of encouraging development of this technology.
