ADB Launches IPTV DVR for North America

GENEVA, Switzerland and TelcoTV, ATLANTA, USA — Advanced Digital Broadcast (SWX:ADBN), a leading supplier of digital TV systems and software solutions for interactive television announced today that it’s high definition, hybrid, digital video recorder (DVR) the ADB-5810WX platform is now certified and ready for deployment in North America.
Following the success of ADB’s flag-ship set-top box (STB) the ADB-3800W, which has sold to over 70 Independent Operating Companies (IOCs), this new product will enable telcos to further develop their video and interactive delivery portfolio – the units will offer customers the benefit of a more personalized television experience including high-quality, one-touch digital recording and playback.

The ADB-5810WX is a state-of-the-art DVR incorporating standard definition (SD) and high definition (HD) television reception and is based on MPEG-2 and H.264/MPEG-4 Advanced Video Coding (AVC). The unit enables operators to maximize their broadcast bandwidth, while presenting consumers with a high quality, personalized television experience. ADB’s unique driver and operating software, coupled with an optimal memory configuration and state-of-the-art microprocessor, result in enhanced system performance, including fast channel decoding and swift rendering of interactive applications. The ADB-5810WX platform enables access to a powerful range of value added IP services such as Video-on-Demand and video conferencing and can act as a ‘home server’ at the heart of a home entertainment network – the units are UPnP, DLNA and DTCP-IP compatible to ensure that they meet the necessary requirements for standards based home networking. The product is fitted with a 160GB hard disk drive providing consumers with the ability to store and playback content at their convenience. The ADB-5810WX is compatible and has been integrated with a number of leading conditional access (CA), Digital Rights Management (DRM) and middleware options including Latens, Verimatrix and Widevine cardless CAs and Minerva Networks’ iTVManager middleware platform.
The units are available from ADB’s distributor Border States Electric and the first products will be shipped in Q3 2007.
