Telefónica del Sur deploys Amino’s industry ‘de-facto’ IPTV Set-Top Boxes to thousands of customers in Chile

CAMBRIDGE, UK and ATLANTA, GA — Amino, the world leading IPTV platform supplier, today announced that Telefonica del Sur (Telsur), a leading provider of Internet-based multimedia and communication services in Chile, has selected the AmiNET110 IPTV Set-Top Box (STB) to deliver pure IPTV services to thousands of its customers in the region. Telsur is distributing the AmiNET110 via Wi-Fi, creating the first wireless in-home multimedia solution in Latin America.

This week executives from Amino will be providing demonstrations of the AmiNET range of IPTV STBs at the TelcoTV Conference & Expo in Atlanta, at Booth #437. On November 20th, executives will be attending the Chile Media Show in Santiago, where Amino will lead an IPTV Workshop.

Launched in July, Telsur’s “WiTV” IPTV service is being offered on its broadband network between the southern Chilean cities of Concepción and Puerto Montt. Telsur has invested heavily in upgrading and expanding its broadband network.

Currently, with the AmiNET110, Telsur offers 100 channels of standard definition digital television via IP with an electronic program guide, parental control options and video on demand capabilities. The company has installed connected home IPTV services in volume with an average of two STBs per home.

The AmiNET110 STB is based on Amino’s award-winning compact design and is compatible with the MPEG-2 video compression standard, the most common format for digital IPTV content today. The unit features an Ethernet input and flexible audio/video output with a USB interface for game controllers and other devices.

“When we set out to bring wireless IPTV services to our customers, it was critical that we selected the best solution providers. Amino not only is the IPTV expert, the company’s STBs are easy to use, flexible, reliable and intelligent,” said Jorge Atton, CEO of Telefónica del Sur, “As we continue to grow into other markets and our customers demand more advanced IPTV features, we’re confident that Amino will provide exactly what we need.”

For this initiative Amino’s solution integrated seamlessly with middleware provided by Minerva Networks and conditional access software from Latens.

“As a global provider of IPTV solutions, we are thrilled to provide the centerpiece for the first wirelessly connected homes in Chile and look forward to more opportunities through out the region,” said Sandra Conejos, Director of Sales – East Coast & Latin America for Amino.
