ZyXEL taps Celeno technology for its wireless media streamer for streaming HD video anywhere in the connected home

LAS VEGAS — 2011 International CES — Celeno Communications, a leading provider of semiconductors for multimedia Wi-Fi home networking applications, today announced that ZyXEL, the world’s leading broadband access solutions provider, has selected Celeno’s CL1820 true video-grade Wi-Fi technology to power its new 5-GHz Wireless N Media Streaming Box – the WAP5605. Consumers and service providers alike can use the media streaming box to wirelessly bridge home gateways and access points with gaming consoles, set-top boxes, media streamers and digital TVs to enable wireless whole-home HD entertainment networking.

“ZyXEL is proud to collaborate with Celeno and leverage their true video-grade Wi-Fi chipset to deliver high-performance Wi-Fi HD video streaming for wireless home networks,” said Chinru Lin, Assistant Vice President of the Digital Home Business Unit for ZyXEL. “We are confident that ZyXEL’s WAP5605 coupled with the innovative OptimizAIR™ technology from Celeno is positioned to meet the stringent performance requirements of IPTV service providers at an attractive price point.”

“The growing variety of display devices and the proliferation of IP video content drive the need for home networking that supports HD entertainment. For a superior quality of experience, wireless networking technology has to be fast, extremely robust, and it has to provide adequate coverage,” said Gilad Rozen, CEO and President of Celeno. “Celeno is excited to partner with ZyXEL for an innovative wireless solution that offers stable bandwidth and range to make HD video streaming a reality, anywhere in a home.”

Celeno’s OptimizAIR technology boosts up standards-based 802.11n to achieve consistent throughput throughout the house and through multiple walls for the simultaneous streaming of up to eight flicker-free 1080p HD resolution video streams. Celeno’s unique combination of adaptive antenna switching with digital beam forming optimizes the solution’s cost/performance by leveraging two transmit radios while utilizing four antennas to increase reach and robustness. Its channel aware scheduling maintains QoS to each and every transmitted video stream – ensuring fair treatment while protecting each stream from starvation due to additional data transmissions.

ZyXEL will be displaying the Celeno-powered WAP5605 5-GHz Wireless N Media Streaming Box at CES 2011 in its hospitality suite at the Renaissance Hotel.
