Agreement Integrates Miniweb’s Award-Winning Connected TV Platform Bringing Internet Video Search and Personalization Features to Line of STBs
FREMONT, CA and LAS VEGAS, NV — CES 2011 — Syabas, a leading global distributor of digital entertainment solutions, and Miniweb, the leading provider of cloud-based connected TV services, today announced the integration of Miniweb’s connected TV platform into Syabas’s new generation of Popbox and Popcorn Hour set top boxes (STB). The integration adds internet video search and personalization features to the STBs and gives users more variety and control over their entertainment options. There will be a progressive roll-out of functionality throughout the year, with first devices being shown at CES 2011.
Syabas integration of Miniweb’s platform will enhance the connected TV proposition with global search, recommendations, personalization, single payments and advertising options for all of its content providers, who can benefit from new revenue streams around premium content payments and advertising.
“Miniweb is focused on transforming the Connected TV environment and we look forward to enabling Syabas’ Popbox and Popcorn Hour products with a complete connected TV solution,” said Jerome de Vitry, CEO, Miniweb. “These integrated devices will offer a dynamic viewer experience and extended content offering to Syabas consumers.”
Internet video from Miniweb’s existing partners will be discoverable on Popbox and Popcorn Hour devices, further broadening the content offering to Syabas consumers and providing additional distribution for Miniweb’s content publishers. Miniweb’s platform integration will move the user experience beyond an app environment and allow consumers to seamlessly search for internet video across multiple content publishers.
“Integrating with Miniweb’s platform was the right choice for our company to expand the capabilities of our products,” said John Canning, VP of Business Development, Syabas. “In this hectic marketplace, working with best of breed partners and solutions, like Miniweb is essential to evolving the Connected TV marketplace and delivering a new TV experience to users.”
