MHEG Features As Part Of Asian DVB-T2 Transmission Trial
Monday, February 28th, 2011LONDON, UK — IMPALA, the International MHEG Promotion Alliance, is pleased to announce that MHEG is forming a key part of the DVB-T2 technology workshop and transmission trial immediately prior to Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union Digital Broadcasting Symposium in Malaysia. MHEG is included in the draft receiver specification for the Malaysia DVB-T2 roll-out expected to start in 2012.
The trial and associated workshop, which has been designed to explore and explain the DVB-T2 standard, will benefit from a supporting MHEG application. This will be broadcast as part of the DVB-T2 transmission and provides details of the trial as well as about those companies participating. It will highlight to broadcasters the effectiveness of MHEG as an interactive TV middleware.
The transmission trial and workshop is being held from 4-7 March, with the ABU Symposium immediately following from the 8-11 March at the Hotel Istana, Kuala Lumpur. Broadcasters from across the region will attend the event.
David Cutts, Founder Member of IMPALA and Managing Director of S&T, says, “This is an important opportunity for broadcasters from across the region to see how efficient and effective both DVB-T2 and MHEG are. Of course, MHEG has already been successfully deployed in the region in Hong Kong and further south in Australia and New Zealand. With an established supplier market and well developed conformance regime – plus the possibility of the MHEG Interaction Channel for connected TV services – the technology is ideal for markets across Asia.”
The founder members of IMPALA are Strategy & Technology (S&T), Cabot Communications and EchoStar Europe.
