New wireless media gateway to reduce cost of multi room PVR solutions

ISTANBUL — AirTies, the innovative wireless networking and STB vendor, today announced plans to deliver a range of Intel® (NASDAQ: INTC)-based wireless home media gateway solutions for cable, satellite, and IPTV providers. The new wireless home media gateway will dramatically cut the cost to operators of delivering a multi room PVR solution by recording live or recorded broadcast video streams onto an internal disk and transmitting them wirelessly to up to three thin client IP-only set-top-boxes for viewing.

AirTies Wireless Media Gateway is targeted towards service providers who want to reduce the cost of deploying a multi-room PVR solution by removing the need to install cabling between the home media gateway and allowing low cost thin client devices to replace the higher specification set top boxes previously needed to deploy multi room PVR systems.

The range of wireless home media gateways will support cable, satellite or IP platforms and wirelessly stream up to three DLNA enabled IP-only set top boxes for viewing using DTCP/IP DRM technology. The PVR functionality allows recording and playback of the streams on internal or external USB disks. Another key function of the wireless gateways is to provide computers, mobile wireless devices as well as connected TVs and STBs with access to the Internet, thereby enabling OTT services to be delivered anywhere in the house.

The media gateways will support TR-069 remote operator management and a web user interface for end-user self management. The powerful Intel® Atom™ media processor family was selected by AirTies to help support all this functionality running on industry standard Linux operating system. The Intel® Atom™ processor CE4200 will be the platform of choice with support for up to 8 transport stream inputs, HD H.264 encoding capability, integrated power management, MS-POD cable card interface, SATA and up to 4 USB host interfaces.

AirTies Wireless Media Gateway also enables the sharing of local content such as home videos, photos, and purchased HD video content across the home between all UPnP-AV and DLNA supporting network-enabled TVs and STBs. For homes with multiple TVs in upstairs rooms, wireless repeaters can be added to extend the wireless range using AirTies Mesh Technology. Set up of the network is made easy with the AirTouch one-touch installation that allows the user to connect the STBs and repeaters wirelessly to the media gateway by just pressing a button.

AirTies Wireless Media Gateways operate at 5GHz frequency, offering 22 HD channels for interference free, high-speed 300Mbps wireless networking. The company’s Dynamic Channel Change technology continually monitors for the best channel to deliver the highest quality of service to eliminate jitter and latency and provide reliable, Ethernet grade network transmission quality wirelessly.

“Intel’s next generation Intel® Atom™ CE media processors combined with AirTies’ wireless technologies and software expertise are making multi-room multi-source HD media viewing and recording possible with the best user experience and minimal system setup effort.”, said Karen Lomas, Intel Corporation’s Director in EMEA Embedded Sales Group. “The users are now getting the freedom to view HD media from multiple sources, like broadcast, internet or local content all over a wireless infrastructure within home.”

Jim Lomax, Executive VP of Sales & Marketing at AirTies added, ” “We’re extremely excited about this collaboration with Intel, as AirTies expands its product lines to become a leading player in the wireless home media entertainment market place, which is set to explode dramatically in the next few years.”

AirTies’ range of home media gateways will start shipping in Q1 2011.
