ST. LOUIS, Missouri — Charter Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: CHTR) the nation’s fourth largest cable operator, serving more than 5 million U.S. customers, has deployed more than one million EBIF-enabled digital set-top boxes in nearly all its communities utilizing Cisco Systems (NASDAQ: CSCO) set-top boxes. With EBIF (Enhanced TV Binary Interchange Format), Charter has taken major steps in advancing interactivity on TV sets.
Charter worked closely with Concurrent (NASDAQ: CCUR) and FourthWall Media in the EBIF platform’s rollout and validation. FourthWall Media supplied its standards-based, I05-compliant EBIF Platform and User Agent, and Concurrent provided overall program management and back-end reporting technology.
“EBIF is driving advanced applications and services that are important to consumers and to Charter,” said Jim Heneghan, President, Charter Media. “We’re pleased to have successfully deployed FourthWall’s EBIF platform to our customers with Cisco set-tops and to have achieved this important milestone. Concurrent and FourthWall Media were key to our successful deployment and delivery of a universal platform to advertisers and programmers.”
Charter’s milestone is part of an industry-wide goal to bring application development and distribution for advanced advertising, t-commerce and interactivity enhancements on national cable networks to fruition.
“FourthWall Media is thrilled to see our EBIF User Agent and Platform Server working in so many Charter households,” said Tim Peters, FourthWall CEO. “Charter is among many cable operators successfully deploying EBIF technology, and we look forward to further collaboration with Charter and Concurrent.”
