Anytime, Anywhere Access to Lights, Thermostats, Appliances and Monitoring Systems via Z-Wave Control Technology, Now Available With Verizon Home Monitoring Control

MILPITAS, CA — Sigma Designs (NASDAQ: SIGM), a worldwide leader in connected media platforms and manufacturer of Z-Wave® wireless technology, announced today that the highly anticipated Verizon Home Monitoring and Control service is now available.

The new Verizon (NYSE, NASDAQ: VZ) smart home service uses Sigma’s award-winning Z-Wave technology within the home. The system will enable customers to lock doors remotely, see what’s going on at home via networked cameras, and set, adjust and control lights, smart thermostats and appliances. This can all be done using just a smartphone, a computer or through their FiOS TV. The solution is controlled by a gateway device that will eventually enable Internet-based connections from Android or iOS tablets. This service is available to all Verizon broadband customers.

“Verizon is breaking down the barriers between ‘home’ and ‘away’ and supporting a borderless lifestyle with the introduction of our Home Monitoring and Control services,” said Eric Bruno, vice president of product development for Verizon. “With the help of Sigma’s Z-Wave technology, our broadband customers are now able to control their home’s energy usage and monitor their home environment regardless of whether they’re at home, in the office or on the road.”

For a monthly service charge, Verizon’s broadband subscribers will be able to remotely monitor their homes via video, secure windows and doors, track energy usage, and remotely control lights, temperature, appliances and door locks. Consumers can chose from three different equipment packages that allow them to customize the service to their particular needs.

“If you’re miles away from home when you realize that you’ve forgotten to lock the front door or turn off the lights, now you won’t have to panic,” stated Gabi Hilevitz, VP and general manager of the Home Connectivity Group at Sigma Designs. “With this new, fully integrated and customizable Z-Wave-enabled home monitoring and control service developed by Verizon, consumers have the access and capabilities they’ve always wanted.”

Among the service features are:

  • The ability to turn on and off lights, plus peer through networked cameras from remote locations
  • Energy-monitoring gadgets like smart thermostats, special adapters that control appliances, plus a sensor placed on the circuit box to measure whole-house electricity use
  • Additional devices like door locks to allow remote locking and unlocking of doors, advanced cameras that can pan and tilt or be installed outdoors, plus window and door sensors to pair with light modules that enable lights to turn on when a door is opened
