Microtune technology showcased in trend-setting digital and cable TV products of worldwide customers at CES, Las Vegas, NV, January 7-10, 2008

PLANO, Texas — With the U.S. digital TV transition just a year away, every consumer electronics device that relies on analog TV signals must migrate to digital. By providing the core technology for every kind of terrestrial TV appliance and application, Microtune’s tuners are making this historic switch-over possible.

At this year’s 2008 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES®) in Las Vegas, January 7-10, 2008, Microtune’s products, embedded as key electronic components, will be showcased in the latest high-volume, trend-setting or concept products of its worldwide customers.

Microtune’s hybrid and digital tuner chips, market-hardened and recognized for industry-leading, and in many cases, industry-defining performance, are deployed in products as diverse as: NTIA-certified DTV converter boxes, TVs on laptops and PCs, HD/DVRs, satellite set top boxes with off-air HDTV capability, cable-ready products, handheld mobile TV phones and PDAs, and a range of sophisticated cable TV equipment (DOCSIS® 3.0-based cable modems, HD/PVR set-top boxes and VoIP cable modems).

Among the Microtune products at CES:

MICROTUNE’S 3-IN-1 TUNERS FOR DIGITAL TELEVISION

Microtune’s flagship tuner, the MT2131, is the only silicon tuner to support all three U.S. standards (NTSC/ATSC and Digital Cable Ready), while at the same time delivering ATSC A/74 levels of performance. Integrating three tuners — analog, digital and cable — in one tiny chip, the MT2131 supports analog and digital TV across both off-air and cable TV reception. The MT2131 enables manufacturers to deploy a tuner with an unmatched combination of performance and versatility across a range of TV products, from high-end, high-performance TVs to low-cost NTIA-certifiable DTV converter boxes. The MT2131 tuner, bridging legacy analog and digital TV standards, offers a robust solution for bringing digital terrestrial and cable-compatible consumer electronics devices to market.

MICROTUNE’S LOW-POWER, MULTI-STANDARD TUNERS FOR PORTABLE DIGITAL TV

Microtune’s low-power tuners, supporting analog and digital reception standards, enable digital TV and video multimedia on multiple kinds of portable or space-constrained devices. This collection of tuners (the MT2060 and MT2266) permit manufacturers to offer no-compromise solutions that deliver best-in-class TV reception, low-power consumption and portability at an affordable consumer price-point. Supporting DVB-T and DVB-H, these tuners also offer a cost-effective, smooth transition from analog-to-digital TV broadcast.

MICROTUNE’S 1GHZ+ TUNERS FOR CABLE HDTV, PVR, HOME-NETWORKING AND DOCSIS® 3.0

Microtune’s highly successful 1GHz+ series of cable TV tuners, the MT212X-series and MT2011/22, enable consumers to seamlessly access, watch and record HD programming, store programs on their DVR set-top, or distribute them to multiple rooms of the home. Proven in the advanced products of the cable industry’s leading equipment manufacturers, Microtune’s cable TV tuners are engineered to support bandwidth-intensive HD video, on-demand and home networking services. Microtune’s advanced tuners, including its new MT2170 wideband DOCSIS 3.0 tuner, also enable a complete suite of competitive cable telecommunications services, including digital phone service and very high-speed (160 Mbps) Internet services. Microtune tuners offer manufacturers proven radio frequency (RF) core technology, permitting them to deliver current and future services to consumers in lower-cost, smaller, full-featured consumer equipment.

MICROTUNE’S ULTRA LOW POWER HYBRID (DVB-H/DVB-T) TUNERS FOR MOBILE TV

Microtune’s suite of ultra low-power tuners (Mobile MicroTuner™ MT2260 and MT2266) bring multi-standard, multi-band TV reception capability to small handheld devices, including mobile TV phones, smart phones, PDAs and other small handhelds. Featured in products currently deployed in real-world commercial mobile TV networks and implemented in concept products for MPH™-based handheld devices, the Mobile MicroTuner chips are built using Microtune’s patent-pending ClearTune™ filtering techniques to enable clear, sharp, interference-free reception in unpredictable mobile reception environments.

MICROTUNE’S PORTFOLIO OF PRODUCTS

Microtune’s portfolio of RF products is optimized for the reception, tuning or transmission of high-frequency video, voice and data signals delivered across both cable, terrestrial and mobile TV networks. Supporting worldwide reception standards, the company’s product portfolio includes tuners, amplifiers and upconverters.
