2006 a Breakthrough Year for Digital STBs in China
Monday, January 7th, 2008Following slow deployments in 2004 and 2005, 2006 was a breakthrough year for digital set top boxes (STBs) in China, reports In-Stat. Total digital cable subscribers reached 12.8 million by the end of 2006, as the digital cable STB industry experienced phenomenal growth. Total digital STB shipments reached 9.97 million; nearly triple the previous year’s figure.
A recent report by the high-tech market research firm found the following:
- Digital cable subscribers in China will reach 100 million in 2012.
- STB market revenue in China will peak in 2011 at US$766.3 million; revenue will start to fall after 2011.
- Interactive STBs are becoming a significant part of the Chinese market.
