Amino to provide Live media gateway to European telecoms operatorMonday, December 10th, 2012
Amino Technologies plc (“Amino” or the “Company”; stock code: AMO), the Cambridge-based leader in digital entertainment solutions for IPTV, OTT and in-home multimedia distribution, has secured a significant new contract to provide set-top boxes based on its Live media gateway platform to a leading European telecoms operator.
The operator will deploy the device as part of an enhanced offering delivering a range of pay-TV and “over the top” (“OTT”) services to its large and growing customer base – alongside mobile and fixed line services.
Launched in September 2012, the Live media gateway is the first hybrid/OTT media gateway to be powered by the new Intel® Atom™ CE 5300 media processor. This combines dual core processing power with a range of new enhanced transcoding and encoding capabilities which distributes content seamlessly to TVs, smartphones and tablets around the home.
The device has a secure Linux environment, based on Amino’s proven Aminet software stack, for the delivery of payTV video, and a controlled Android virtual machine to support a wide range of OTT applications and services. The device will utilise the hardware virtualisation features available in the Intel Atom CE5300 SoC to run multiple virtual machines at full speed.
Donald McGarva, CEO of Amino said: “This is a breakthrough contract with a large and growing operator. They recognise that the combination of trusted and secure Aminet pay-TV performance – and a proven global Android apps development environment – offers an exciting new way to secure and grow their customer base with a powerful multiscreen entertainment offering.”
Keith Wehmeyer, General Manager, Intel Set-top Box Solutions, said: “Intel is pleased to support Amino’s Live media gateway, which is powered by our next generation SOC, the Intel Atom CE5300. Amino’s adoption of Intel® Virtualization Technology will enable innovative new experiences for consumers.”
