A combination of classical IPTV and HbbTV has been classified as something impossible in the industry. This technical issue has now been solved by WISI Communications GmbH & Co. KG (WISI) and IP.NETCOM for the first time by a new hybrid set top box (STB) for the Multi Screen Content Management System “AiMS”.

HbbTV over IP – Combination of two systems

TV and broadband internet are merging faster and faster. Drivers of this pan-European development are SmartTVs and mobile end devices combined with a changing consumer behavior. For network operators who would like to keep their ability to compete in this changing environment it is more and more important that they are able to provide HD TV content and multimedia services in any network on all available fixed and mobile devices. WISI and its partner IP.NETCOM have the ideal response for this challenge for all network operators with their comprehensive Multi Screen Content Management Solution “AiMS”. Now the two partners have presented HbbTV via classical IPTV with a STB that is using the ETSI DVB-IP standard. Reception of DVB-IPTV channels as well as the ability to detect DVB-IPTV channels via the SAP protocol is fully compliant with the respective ETSI standards. Furthermore the STB has a CI+ slot as well as an embedded Conax© CAS 7.5 with card pairing to give the end-customer the choice to subscribe to any Pay-TV package he prefers. Other embedded CAS systems as well as DRM can be ordered based on separate agreements.
