Vodafone Spain presents its multimedia platform for ultra-fast broadband

  • Vodafone customers will be able to enjoy Yomvi from CANAL+ either on their televisions and personal computers or on mobile devices

BARCELONA — Vodafone Spain has announced the launch of its multimedia platform for ultra-fast broadband consisting of a new device for the home, Vodafone Box, and optimization to its fixed and mobile networks for dynamic content management.

New multimedia platform

Vodafone Spain has announced a new service delivery platform that supports adaptive streaming dependant on the user device, the type of network, and the quality of the connection through which the content is being accessed, in order to offer the best quality at all times.

In this way, in the mobile environment, the user receives the best experience, as delivery adapts in real time to the available network, whether 3G or 4G, and to the type of device, either smartphone or tablet. Similar adaptation occurs for fixed line access over ADSL or fibre.

Vodafone Box

Vodafone Spain has also launched its Vodafone Box home multimedia platform, a set-top box that allows access to DTT channels as well as IP content from the Yomvi service from CANAL+. The box supports HD video and Dolby Digital Plus audio.

The Vodafone Box has to be connected to Vodafone’s fiber or ADSL networks either directly or via wi-fi. In addition, it is possible to use the Vodafone with the company’s 4G network.

This service will be available from April to fiber customers and from June for ADSL customers.

Agreement with CANAL+

Vodafone Spain has reached an agreement with CANAL+ to offer its customers premium content from the Canal+ Yomvi service with multiscreen access, either on a TV using the Vodafone Box, on other devices such as smartphones and tablets (Android and iOS*) or using a PC/MAC.

The service for smartphones, tablets and for the PC or MAC will be launched in March. The Vodafone Box multimedia platform launches in April.

* Yomvi is available for smartphones and tablets with Android 4.0 or higher and with iOS 5 or higher.
