SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA and MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA — Ooyala, the leading innovator in video streaming, analytics and monetization, today announced that its technology has been deployed in support of Pay-TV service provider Foxtel’s new Presto subscription movie service. Presto will be available in Australia next week on personal computers and iOS devices, and is coming soon to Android devices. Telstra, Australia’s leading telecommunications and information services company and a reseller of Ooyala technology, worked with Foxtel to bring Presto to market as the first-ever service in the region to offer linear streaming of movies via both subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) and pay-per-view (PPV) transactions.
As part of the Presto deployment, Telstra partnered with Ooyala’s Professional Services group to develop a custom publishing workflow and metadata management system for Foxtel, deliver studio-approved digital rights management (DRM) that works across all screens, and to integrate Presto with Telstra’s IPTV platform as well as other Telstra and Foxtel systems and partner platforms.
The full set of over-the-top capabilities that Ooyala technology powers for Presto includes content search, discovery and recommendations, device registration and management, and rich viewer analytics to help Foxtel understand at a granular level how their audience is engaging with their content. These insights enable improved content, programming and monetization decisioning.
“Presto is the latest example of Ooyala technology becoming a global standard for the world’s most prominent broadcasters and operators,” said Jay Fulcher, president and chief executive officer for Ooyala. “Partners like Telstra, and Pay-TV providers like Foxtel, understand that the digital era of TV and video mandates technology that unifies analytics and measurement with core video management and streaming services. This has been our focus from day one, and it is why in every major market, Ooyala is a go-to partner for delivering powerful, personalised and profitable services for every screen.”
The launch of Presto builds on the strong momentum Ooyala has gained as the standard SaaS-based IP-delivered video service in the region. Ooyala powers services for many of Australia’s leading enterprises, publishers and broadcasters including Shine Australia, Tennis Australia, News Corp Australia, Fairfax Media and Southern Cross Austereo. Together, Telstra and Ooyala also power services for Australia’s National Rugby League and Australian Football League.
Rick Ellis, Group Managing Director Telstra Media Group, said the overarching guiding principle of Telstra is to deliver Australians engaging, interactive experiences on any screen, at any time. “Ooyala underpins our plans to deliver just that, a personalised, compelling and intuitive video experience across all screens. Ooyala’s superior video analytics also help us better understand the levers that drive viewer engagement so we can develop leading-edge programming and streaming services for our customers,” said Mr. Ellis.
