Espial Highlights Advanced DVB and RDK User Experience at IBC Show

  • Company demos HTML5 UX and RDK Application Framework for DVB set-top boxes

OTTAWA — Espial, a leader in on-demand TV software and solutions, today announced its planned demonstrations at the IBC Show 2014, September 12-16 in Amsterdam (stand 5.A07). Espial will demonstrate one of the industry’s first DVB-based, HTML5 TV user experiences for Reference Design Kit (RDK).

Featuring the Espial STB Client, which offers a powerful Application Framework and an advanced UX framework, the demo leverages the latest open technologies with the Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) standard. By implementing DVB, a video standard widely used by operators throughout Europe and many other parts of the world, Espial is further extending RDK-based user experiences to the global community. The Espial demo will feature several next-generation user experience portals, super-fast core video and custom sports apps, and access to favorite HTML5 Web apps such as YouTube.

Leveraging open industry standards and initiatives, Espial client solutions are recognized internationally for delivering exceptional user experiences for consumers on set-top boxes and smart TVs. The Espial STB Client – based on HTML5 and RDK – extends the capabilities of RDK with an application framework and user experience framework to provide a common application engine for MSOs. This ensures that MSOs can achieve Web speed designing and deploying the richest, highest performance user experiences possible across a wide range of set-top-box platforms—from legacy platforms to home gateways.
