Deutsche Glasfaser GmbH Selects Verimatrix to Power Multi-Screen Vision

  • VCAS for Internet TV Provides Robust Revenue Security for German Advanced Fiber Network Deployment

AMSTERDAM — IBC 2014 — Verimatrix, the specialist in securing and enhancing revenue for multi-network, multi-screen digital TV services around the globe, today announced that Deutsche Glasfaser GmbH, a fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network provider, has selected the Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS™) to provide enhanced revenue security for its linear TV, radio, video-on-demand (VOD) and multi-screen services. The DGTV service is scheduled to launch in October 2014 and will offer German subscribers access to approximately 100 SD channels, 50 HD and 100 radio channels.

Deutsche Glasfaser deployed VCAS™ for Internet TV to provide enhanced revenue security for DGTV, which is deployed over a fiber network featuring the HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) protocol. The new service can be accessed through multiple devices, including via an Abox42 model M20 set-top-box (STB), game consoles, both Android and iOS-based phones and tablets, PCs, Macs, and connected TVs. Key members of the broad Verimatrix ecosystem serve vital roles in the deployment, which also leverages Elemental’s software-defined video processing technology, VisualOn’s multimedia player for PC, Android and iOS, Cisco Systems’ servers and network technology, and Gluster FS’ distributed file system.

“We chose to collaborate with Verimatrix on this important deployment as VCAS offers us the flexibility to cost-effectively secure the services that our subscribers demand,” said Niels Jonkman, business manager, Deutsche Glasfaser. “The depth and breadth of the Verimatrix deployment ecosystem was also particularly attractive. Collaborating with best-of-breed vendors that have proven component integration points has certainly streamlined our deployment and reduced time to market.”

VCAS for Internet TV provides a complete digital TV security solution for OTT services over multiple networks. Featuring enhanced HLS security, VCAS for Internet TV secures pay-OTT services to multiple screens and across multiple network types, including both broadcast (linear) and VoD delivery modes. Specifically, VCAS for Internet TV provides pay-TV security features otherwise only found in managed DVB and IPTV networks, thus facilitating the licensing of premium content for OTT services.

“As operators around the globe increasingly adopt hybrid network configurations, it is imperative to deploy a revenue security solution that seamlessly supports multiple networks and enables new business models,” said Steve Oetegenn, president, Verimatrix. “VCAS is uniquely suited to help operators such as Deutsche Glasfaser scale and support both their immediate and emerging digital TV security needs. We congratulate them on the upcoming launch of their DGTV service and look forward to collaborating with them on future initiatives.”

Verimatrix will illustrate the key role of multi-network revenue security at IBC 2014, 12-16 Sept 2014 at the RAI Amsterdam (booth #4.A55). During the exposition, the company will showcase its approach to IP-centric video services for progressive pay-TV operators.
