Irdeto Service & Content Protection Solution Supports DVB-H Trial for Latvia’s First and Largest Mobile Carrier

Barcelona, Spain – Mobile World Congress 2008 — Irdeto (JSE: NPN), the proven expert in content security for digital TV, IPTV and mobile, has been engaged by Latvijas Mobilais Telefons (LMT) to secure mobile TV services in Latvia. LMT is Latvia’s largest mobile network operator, providing mobile services since 1992.

The LMT mobile TV trial was launched in November 2007 and will continue through 2008. The trial covers Riga, the Latvian capital, and its larger metropolitan district. In all, 500 subscribers will participate in the trial, which features broadcast streams from the area’s four public TV channels.

“Mobile TV is an ideal medium to meet subscriber demands for additional pay-TV offerings and mobile content, while also creating new business revenue for LMT,” said Juris Binde, president of LMT. “The current mobile TV trial sets the stage for future commercial deployment, which wouldn’t be possible without a solid conditional access (CA) infrastructure. LMT selected Irdeto for its robust CA platform, proactive security strategy and extensive experience within the mobile TV space.”

“As the world’s first conditional access provider for mobile TV, we have a well-established track record in delivering content security solutions to mobile operators,” said Doug Lowther, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Irdeto. “Our solution enables LMT to deliver mobile TV services confidently over its mobile broadcasting network with the assurance that their revenue streams will be protected.”

Irdeto will exhibit at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona from 11-14 February 2008.
