MStar Semiconductor, Inc. Ships Its 20 Millionth HEVC Decoder
HEVC is a hot topic in IBC with a lot of companies talking about the new video decoding technology. But for MStar Semiconductor, Inc. HEVC is not new at all. MStar Semiconductor, Inc. is a long established leader in Digital TV and STB technology and at IBC 2014 will launch its 3rd generation of chipsets using the HEVC standard whilst also celebrating the milestone of 20 million HEVC decoders shipped.
Trevor Neal, Vice President of MStar Semiconductor Inc., stated “MStar considers HEVC is now a very mature technology, it’s moved on from being a high end feature to becoming a standard feature in a wide range of our chipsets.”
MStar expects its inclusion of HEVC in a wide range of chipsets will have a major impact on operators plan to roll out HEVC based STB. “This is good news for the industry as a whole, because now operators can begin to include HEVC as a standard item in even their low end STB, so preparing for a future switch to HEVC” said Trevor Neal.
MStar latest chipsets including HEVC and 4K devices are on display at IBC in a private booth located in Balcony suites 5 and 6 in Hall 1 of the Amsterdam RAI.
