WebTuner Selects ALi STB Chipsets for Secure OTT and Hybrid Set-Top Box Solutions
TAIPEI, Taiwan — ALi Corporation, a leading Set-Top Box (STB) chipset solution provider, and WebTuner Corp., a provider of set-top and portable DVR products with a unified electronic content guide (ECG) for all digital content, today announced a design and development partnership for secure, high performance, next generation over-the-top (OTT), TV Extenders, and Hybrid STB solutions.
WebTuner’s hybrid compact STB solution features its ECG running on ALi’s M3733 HD hybrid system-on-chip (SoC) embedded with multiple RISC and 3D graphics processors, to deliver both broadcast and IP streams anywhere in the home over Ethernet or Wi-Fi. This high performance compact design combines the benefits of a fully functional OTT and DVB STB that gives operators the ability to satisfy a wide range of market needs in one device.
WebTuner’s TV Extender for digital terrestrial television (DTTV) running on ALi’s M3823 HD SoC with integrated ISDB-T/DVB-T2 demodulators works in conjunction with its OTT module to offer plug-in flexibility to add any linear TV broadcast content to existing broadband services. This modularity approach is also well suited to ensure high quality reception of terrestrial signals where placement of receivers is critical. With Ethernet or Wi-Fi to distribute within the home, there is no more limitation on having linear TV within multiple rooms.
“ALi’s high performance, secure, low cost solutions allow us to bring our next generation products to market with the confidence of meeting a wide range of customer needs for live, on-demand and on-line content,” says Eduard Zaslavsky, WebTuner co-founder and CTO.
“ALi, with its proven track record in STB chipsets, is happy to collaborate with a leading-edge startup like WebTuner to bring to light our strength and embrace partnership of innovation. WebTuner’s ultra compact design and unified content guide, powered by ALi’s features optimized SoCs, will give operators and content providers a competitive advantage and flexibility to augment their content distribution offerings,” says Tony Chang, General Manager of ALi’s Broadcast and Broadband Media Business Unit.
Demonstrations will be available at the NAB Show in the WebTuner Sprockit Booth, N2530F, and ALi Meeting Suite, SU11624MR, south hall (upper).
