Chrysler Selects Parrot for Its Next Generation Digital TV Solution

PARIS — Parrot (Paris:PARRO), a leading player in the field of Connected Automotive Infotainment and the leading provider of digital TV & radio solutions in mobility, announced today that Chrysler has chosen Parrot’s Digital TV solution for Head Units in the form factor of a dedicated ECU.

Parrot has started production of the next Digital TV generation for Jeep vehicles. This automotive-grade TV-box is showcasing a feature-subset of Parrot Automotive Media Center supporting worldwide TV reception in mobility, here focusing on Japan market only. DTV broadcasts media to the Head Unit via the vehicle bus and video channel. With the extention of the Media Center, streaming to external brought in Wi-Fi tablets is supported as well.

The DTV box is based on Parrot IPs: the Parrot FC7100 System on Module for full HD decoding capabilities and the Octopus Chips for best in class tuner and demodulator. Octopus offers a flexible and powerful solution to solve the problem of standards multiplication around the world.

With patented diversity technology, Parrot Automotive solution can effectively solve multi-path fading and Doppler effect in high-speed mobility, which is mandatory for receiving high-quality TV signal in severe environment.

This platform is based on one programmable broadcast-specific vector signal processor (VSP) and it is able to handle any TV standard by adapting its microcode.

The Parrot leading Software Define Radio (SDR) technology Octopus is today running successfully in the cars of many major worldwide brands such as German, Japanese and Chinese car makers.

Ready for automotive infotainment usage, the Parrot platform is designed to become the set-top box in the car. Browsing and streaming all available TV or sharing and playing media content will be available for user with their own smart phone or tablets over Wi-Fi.
