iWedia Integrates Its Teatro-3.0 Software For Hybrid STB Featuring HbbTV On Top Of The Latest Connected FHD/UHD HEVC STB SoC From HiSilicon

LAUSANNE, Switzerland — iWedia, a leading provider of software solutions for TV devices to service operators and Consumer Electronics manufacturers, today announced that it has integrated its Linux-based Teatro-3.0 software solution for hybrid (DVB+IP) Set-Top Box (STB) featuring HbbTV on top of the Hi3798/Hi3796 family of connected FHD/UHD HEVC STB System-on-Chip (SoC) from HiSilicon Technologies Co., Ltd., a worldwide leading company providing silicon solutions for digital home, communications and wireless terminals.

The announcement was made to coincide with the opening of IBC 2015 which is held in Amsterdam from Friday, September 11th through to Tuesday, September 15th. Both HiSilicon (hall 2, booth C30) and iWedia (hall 5, booth B40) exhibit at the show where the integrated solution will be demonstrated.

The Hi3798/Hi3796 series of chipsets includes Hi3798M V100, Hi3796M V100, and Hi3798C V200. It provides solutions for entry-level through high-end FHD/UHD HEVC STB. It features an advanced security engine integrating a Trusted Execution Environment (TEE), a Secure Video-Path (SVP), and forensic watermarking technologies. All security requirements are fulfilled to protect the system both in static and running modes. The security engine protects the power on and boot processes, the OS kernel loading, the middleware launching, and the app/UI execution.

Teatro-3.0, a software solution for hybrid (DVB+IP) STB, is based on Linux with a User Interface built in HTML/CSS which uses specific JavaScript APIs allowing access to digital pay-TV functions. The solution features DLNA (player and renderer), access to “walled garden” Web and OTT video services (CE-HTML portals, HbbTV applications), as well as Personal Video Recorder and Time Shift Buffer.

Teatro-3.0 is pre-integrated with main security solutions (DRM and CA systems) as well as with major services delivery platforms.

“Teatro-3.0 is ideally suited at DVB+IP STB as it enhances the basic functions of a zapper with connectivity features and especially with support to HbbTV to allow access to Web and OTT video services,” said Giora Golan, VP Business Development at iWedia. “It was thus making a lot of sense to port Teatro-3.0 on the latest family of SoC for connected FHD/UHD HEVC STB from HiSilicon and we are very pleased to have achieved this integration”.

The porting project went smoothly and was indeed facilitated by the efficient processes, tools, and documentations that accompany Teatro-3.0 and ease its integration, testing, and validation.

“Having iWedia Teatro-3.0 software pre integrated with our Hi3798/Hi3796 series of chipsets and leveraging their integration services capabilities dramatically enhances the Time-To-Market for our STB OEM customers who target the pay-TV markets,” said Liu Zhiyang, General Manager of STB Chipsets at HiSilicon.
