Sofia Digital to deliver HbbTV support for DELTA Cloud TV deployment in the Netherlands

Finnish pioneer of interactive television Sofia Digital together with the Finnish technology company Booxmedia have announced a contract with Dutch utilities and digital services company DELTA, to provide, install and maintain a new end-to-end multiscreen cloud TV solution, using Booxmedia’s white label platform and products. As part of the project Sofia Digital will deliver HbbTV support for DELTA’s multiscreen solution. With Sofia Digital applications, viewers with an HbbTV receiver and a DELTA account can browse the Enhanced EPG through a convenient interface, to schedule future program recordings and start watching past programs from the cloud.

In addition to the HbbTV support, the new service will allow DELTA customers to also use their OTT devices to enjoy the advanced features of Booxmedia’s Cloud TV-Everywhere Suite that include live stream programs, catch-up libraries, network PVR and Booxmedia’s “start-over-to-live” feature that allows users to watch ongoing live stream broadcasts from the beginning. The service will extensively use Booxmedia’s end-to-end technology that handles everything from media ingest and back-office applications, to secure delivery of the content to all different devices that are suitable for Internet video streaming.

Sofia Digital’s Enhanced EPG application and cloud TV client has been integrated with the Booxmedia’s CloudTV-Everywhere service. This allows users to utilize their existing HbbTV 1.5 compatible receivers or DELTA’s HbbTV compatible Set-top Box to access the CloudTV content that’s now going to be integrated into the linear EPG application, to offer seamless TV viewing experience between linear TV broadcast and OTT video service. The Enhanced EPG has been deployed earlier for example in Finland, Estonia, Hungary and Turkey – giving direct access to catch-up services and, for example, promotional trailers depending on the market.
