Philippines' Sky Cable adds PPV to online offering
Friday, July 22nd, 2016Sky brings live cable TV, pay-per-view online; unveils more premium services for digital-savvy Filipino families
Sky Cable, the leading cable and broadband technology provider in the Philippines, is now offering access to pay-per-view offerings online via SKY On Demand, as it also launches premium services on SKYcable and SKYbroadband to give digital-savvy Filipino families a unique experience in the digital evolution.
SKY On Demand, the company’s video-on-demand platform introduced in 2015, already offers live streaming of its strong channel lineup online so viewers can conveniently watch their favorite cable shows on multiple devices anytime, anywhere in the country.
According to Sky Cable Head of Digital / OTT Jerome Almirante, “the viewing habits of Filipinos are rapidly changing because they increasingly prefer watching shows using different gadgets aside from TV. With SKY On Demand, Filipino families can stream live cable TV, pay-per-view, and catch up on popular local and foreign shows anytime on their laptops, smartphones, and tablets.”
The company aims to continue its mission of being at the forefront of introducing innovative services that keep up with the ever-changing digital lifestyle of Filipino families and complement ABS-CBN’s strength in content production and distribution in the digital era.
“Sky Cable led many creative innovations in the past 25 years. Our inspiration behind it all is the Filipino family because we want every Kapamilya to have the best and unique content experience that only Sky Cable can offer and no other industry player can replicate. In this way, we are living the mission of being in the service of the Filipino people,” Alan Supnet, marketing head of Sky Cable said.
Sky Cable is a unit of ABS-CBN Corporation, the country’s leading media and entertainment company that is transitioning into an agile digital company by seeing growth in its digital television and mobile businesses while staying committed to be in the service of Filipinos worldwide.
SKY On Demand was launched in 2015 during Sky Cable’s 25th year, signaling the start of Sky Cable’s direction to redefine cable TV viewing among Filipinos. Its library boasts pay-per-view content, local and foreign channels like CNN, Disney, and BTV; movies, and exclusive channels like ABS-CBN HD, ANC HD, ABS-CBN Sports + Action HD, among others. It is accessible using a SKYbroadband or SKYmobi (mobile internet) connection.
On top of bringing pay-per-view and cable shows online like “America’s Got Talent” and “Adventure Time,” SKYcable also rolls out the widest pay-per-view options every month. Families can choose from fresh-off-the-cinema blockbuster releases from movie outfits like Star Cinema on SKY Pay-Per-View Box Office, restored titles on SKY Pay-Per-View Classics, award-winning indie films on SKY Pay-Per-View Critics’ Choice, live or recorded coverages of concerts on SKY Pay-Per-View VIP Access, and live coverage of must-see sports events on SKY Pay-Per-View Sports.
Supnet also said that SKY added more premium pay-per-view content when they observed how most Filipinos struggle to find convenient avenues to watch movies, restored classics, indie films, and live events.
“When Filipino families miss the chance to catch a film during its theatrical release, they have to wait for months to watch it on TV, DVD, or during a limited screening. When they are in the provinces, they don’t have the opportunity to be part of big events that are usually held in Manila. SKY Pay-Per-View now becomes their portal to get front-row access to all these enriching viewing experiences,” he explained.
Among the banner offerings this month is the eight-hour Lav Diaz opus “Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis” on SKY Pay-Per-View Critics’ Choice that will be screened continuously for seven days until July 24 and the hit John Lloyd Cruz and Jennylyn Mercado starrer “Just The 3 of Us” on SKY Pay-Per-View Box Office until July 31. All pay-per-view offerings are available to families subscribed to SKYcable or SKYbroadband. Alternatively, they can also catch it via SKY On Demand.
SKY also introduces its newest Super Saver Plan bundle, the only internet and cable TV bundle plan with no hidden charges. It combines SKYcable prepaid and SKYbroadband services that aims to empower families to access unlimited internet without any data cap with speeds of up to 3mbps priced at P999 every month and superior cable content with no stringent monthly fee commitment.
The Super Saver Plan 3mbps is created to allow families to access information and entertainment on both the internet and television, while keeping in mind flexibility and affordability.
“Today, the television and internet are the main sources of information and entertainment. Digital-savvy Filipino families rely on both to optimize their daily grind and to enjoy a variety of engaging content. With the new Super Saver Plan, more Filipino homes will get to experience the vast digital world because the plan is designed to be affordable and flexible,” Czarina de Guzman, SKYbroadband head said.
Meanwhile, the bundled SKYcable prepaid grants access to SKY’s solid channel lineup that includes HD and exclusive channels. Families can choose from three cable prepaid load variants available for P99, P250, and P450 valid for 30 days to activate their SKYcable prepaid subscription, making it a highly customizable and flexible viewing experience.
Throughout the years, Sky Cable has delivered and distributed world-class content using innovative services. It pioneered cable TV in 1990 and launched the first prepaid cable service in the Philippines through SKYcable prepaid. It also introduced the iRecord feature that lets subscribers pause, play back live TV, and record shows. Now, Sky Cable is eyeing expansion nationwide through the launch of SKYdirect, its affordable direct-to-home pay TV service. Sky Cable is a unit of ABS-CBN Corporation, the Philippines’ leading media and entertainment organization.
