Allegro DVT Introduces New Lightweight Multi-Format Video Encoder IP

GRENOBLE, France — Allegro DVT, a leading provider of H.264/AVC, H.265/HEVC and VP9 encoder, codec and decoder hardware (RTL) IP solutions, today announced the availability of a new lightweight version of its multi-format encoder HW IP targeted at consumer applications with requirements for high quality video compression.

The new lightweight version builds on Allegro DVT’s successful multi-format encoder HW IP which was already adopted by multiple SoC manufacturers. It brings more than 50% optimization in terms of silicon area. This is accomplished with an optimal silicon-area/video quality trade-off which is perfectly suitable for consumer applications.

The new IP continues to leverage the true multi-format architecture which allows sharing of HW resources between different codecs and features a scalable architecture which can be scaled to match the resolution of the target application. It supports video encoding to H.264/AVC or H.265/HEVC into resolutions up to 3840×2160@60fps. It is configurable to work in 8-bit and 10-bit color depth.

Pierre Marty, CEO of Allegro DVT, commented: “The release of this new lightweight version of our multi-format encoder IP strengthens our portfolio and provide our customers with more choice to select the right video encoder IP for their target application. It extends our addressable market and helps us address new segments with requirements for highly optimized SoCs with consumer-grade video encoding quality.”
