Media Prima Television Networks (MPTN) Chief Executive Officer Datuk Kamal Khalid said, “Our aim is to grow tonton both locally and internationally. Locally, we strive to upgrade tonton services and offerings in order to give high value for money to our users. Internationally, we hope to expand the brand and its content reach in order to cater to the needs of our fans who reside outside of Malaysia while helping to share our local content to the world,” he said.

“More excitingly, Media Prima’s award-winning content can now be shared and experienced by everybody in Singapore especially through this strategic partnership with Singtel. This is in line with our strategy in providing the best of Malaysia’ homemade content, and charts the next wave of growth of MPTN and tonton in particular,” he added.

Mr Goh Seow Eng, Managing Director of Home, Consumer Singapore, Singtel, said, “OTT content plays a major role in our strategy to connect with customers and we are always looking to satisfy their diverse viewing needs by delivering more on-the-go premium content to their multiple devices.”

He added, “With tonton on our popular OTT platform, CAST, we are offering over 25,000 hours of top-rated Malay-language entertainment to our Malay customers. We expect tonton’s ethnic content to be a great hit with them.”

In Singapore, a large portion of tonton’s huge library and live events will be made available. Customers can also look forward to a fully customised user experience plus specially curated content that’s designed for the Singapore audience. There will be live events such as Anugerah Bintang Popular Berita Harian (ABPBH), Mentor Milenia, top-rated dramas like Menanti Februari (starring Zul Ariffin), Raisha (starring Diana Danielle) alongside other top-notch Malaysian dramas up to 6 months before TV broadcast and more.

Datuk Kamal added that the rapid development in technology has challenged existing business models particularly the entertainment industry. “However, with challenges come opportunities. This partnership is ideal in showing just that – technology helps bring quality Malaysian content, in this case entertainment and edutainment content, across geographical borders.”

tonton, MPTN’s OTT platform, offers linear channels and over 30,000 hours of catch-up and premium video content, which includes dramas, talk shows, and movies made in Malaysia. Reaching more than 6.8 million users, 80% of its offerings are local content. tonton continues to add over 18,000 new members weekly.
