1&1 Launches Multiscreen IPTV Service in Germany With ABOX42 Smart Set-Top Box Platform
KARLSRUHE, Germany — ABOX42, a leading supplier of IPTV, OTT and hybrid DVB advanced set-top box (STB) solutions today announced that 1&1, a tier 1 internet and telephone service provider in Germany, has launched a multiscreen IPTV service powered by ABOX42’s M30-Series smart STB platform. With ABOX42’s STB solution, 1&1 can deliver compelling content, including live TV, VOD, catch-up TV, time-shift TV, PVR, HbbTV, and popular video streaming services like maxdome, over multiple networks.
ABOX42’s STB platform is pre-integrated with the multiscreen TV solution from Zattoo that allows 1&1 subscribers to view engaging TV content on the main screen TV as well as secondary devices like tablets, smartphones, streaming devices and PCs. With the M30 smart STB platform, 1&1 can deliver its TV services via Unicast IPTV on DSL/VDSL and fiber networks to reach the broadest possible range of subscribers. ABOX42’s M30 STB platform ensures efficient streaming of HD broadcast and on-demand content using latest generation MPEG DASH playout for live TV with multi-audio and teletext, local and cloud recording / time-shift, as well as multi DRM support. The platform’s software stack and total lifecycle management solution streamlines the STB management for the tier 1 service provider in a unique way.
“With more than 4 million DSL customers in Germany, 1&1 is a powerful player in the service provider market, and adding a compelling television offering to its portfolio will further strengthen its position,” said Matthias Greve, CEO of ABOX42. “Ultimately, 1&1 chose the ABOX42 set-top box platform based on our extensive deployment expertise, fast time to market, and support for next-generation features, including HbbTV and on-demand streaming services. Together, we’re shaping next-generation television experiences in Germany.”
