Mediacorp selects Skyline Communications to monitor its DVB-T2 network
Friday, June 22nd, 2018Mediacorp selects Skyline Communications’ DataMiner to monitor their DVB-T2 transmission network
Skyline Communications, the global leader in end-to-end multi-vendor network management solutions, deploys its flagship DataMiner platform at Mediacorp, Singapore’s largest broadcaster and digital TV transmission network operator.
“We are very proud to announce that Mediacorp has chosen DataMiner to monitor their DVB-T2 transmission network,” says Ben Vandenberghe, CEO at Skyline Communications. “Mediacorp is an established pioneer in the broadcasting industry, so we consider this partnership to be yet another huge step forward for both companies. They will strongly benefit from deploying our system, as DataMiner is the only system that provides an entire service management over all video and network devices, data centers and virtualized software functions, regardless of vendor or model.”
The deal with Mediacorp is extremely wide in scope, with a setup that comprises more than 1,500 transmission and network elements, spread across more than 100 different locations. The managed broadcast equipment is sourced from many different vendors and includes distribution, transmission and monitoring products. Moreover, the system provides full monitoring of facilities and environmental conditions. The multi-vendor nature of DataMiner makes it possible to integrate all operational aspects into a single platform, making operations intuitive and cost-effective. DataMiner truly redefines the way networks are operated.
Another important feature of the system is flexibility. Mediacorp has extremely specific requirements for its DVB-T2 deployment plan, with two major constraints to take into account: the reliance on SFN technology throughout the island, and the need to enable indoor reception for every home in Singapore. This has never been done on such a scale before, requiring complex implementations to complete the process.
“DataMiner has been instrumental to the tracking and elimination of defects throughout the network in an early stage,” says Jonathan Triboulet, Director APAC Operations at Skyline Communications. “To this day, we are still continuously adding new features to the system in order to further satisfy the customer’s desires, but I believe it is safe to conclude we have already reached a highly tailored system that meets today’s demand of a comprehensive network management system.”
