DENVER — Ambit Microsystems, a worldwide leader in wired and wireless broadband communications, has selected the Alticast tru2way™ platform middleware solution, AltiCaptor™, for their digital cable set-top boxes. AltiCaptor is currently deployed in digital cable, satellite and broadcast receivers around the world and is proven in over 5 million devices in consumer’s homes.

Ambit is working with Alticast to initially bring two cable receivers to market. The first model will be an affordable, single-tuner, standard-definition device that will support the latest OpenCable specifications, and will be available in the second half of 2008. With the growing demand for HD-DVR services, Ambit will also deliver a high-performance, dual-tuner, HD-DVR cable receiver later in the year.

“Ambit is pleased to work with Alticast to continue delivering high-quality and competitive products to our valued cable customers,” said Max Cangelosi, Vice President of Marketing for Ambit. “We believe Alticast’s experience and dedication to the tru2way platform aligns with our vision to help service providers fully take advantage of innovative new technologies for the subscriber.”

“Alticast is excited about Ambit’s commitment to providing tru2way-compatible devices to the North American market,” said Jeffrey Bonin, General Manager of Alticast. “We are confident that Ambit will provide products that help broaden the footprint of the tru2way platform deployments, and are proud to be a trusted partner for Ambit’s aggressive plans.”

Alticast and Ambit Broadband will be demonstrating their products at The Cable Show, May 18-20 at the Morial Convention Center in New Orleans.
