OpenTV Core2™, with Integrated PVR Support, To Power Foxtel HD+ Service

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — OpenTV Corp. (NASDAQ: OPTV), a leading provider of solutions for the delivery of advanced digital television and advanced advertising services, today announced the commercial launch of the new FOXTEL iQ2 High Definition PVR, a quad tuner set-top box that has almost double the recordable capacity of the current FOXTEL iQ and provides an HD platform with integrated PVR services to FOXTEL subscribers.

For the first time, FOXTEL viewers will be able to seamlessly utilize PVR functionality for both the FOXTEL Standard Definition service and the newly launched FOXTEL HD+ High Definition service on one box, at just the touch of a button. This seamless viewer experience is made possible by OpenTV Core2 middleware with integrated PVR support, which provides the interfaces necessary for High Definition multi-tuner set-top devices that support advanced services such as multiple simultaneous recordings in both SD and HD, while pausing live TV.

“FOXTEL has once again shown leadership by being the first News Corporation network to deploy OpenTV Core2,” said Ben Bennett, OpenTV’s Chief Executive Officer. “We are very proud to partner with FOXTEL on the introduction of their first High Definition platform and continue to work with them to innovate and provide new and advanced services to their subscribers.”

“OpenTV’s robust technology makes this kind of launch possible,” said Peter Smart, Director of Engineering at FOXTEL. “We are excited about launching the Foxtel iQ2 with OpenTV Core 2, and we look forward to working with OpenTV for a long time to come.”

OpenTV’s solution provides a full range of PVR functionality to FOXTEL viewers including live pause, instant rewind, one touch record, and dual record. All of these are provided seamlessly and consistently across both Standard Definition and High Definition services with integrated HDCP content protection management.
