StarTimes ON app now available for VIDAA OS TVs

StarTimes and VIDAA have today announced that the streaming application StarTimes ON will now be available on VIDAA-powered Hisense smart TVs.

StarTimes ON is a mobile application by Africa’s leading digital TV operator StarTimes. It combines live TV channels and rich Video On Demand (VOD) content to offer a premium user experience. StarTimes says the application serves 27 million users and ranks among top 5 entertainment apps in many territories on the continent.

A Linux-based open smart TV operating system, VIDAA is currently used on Hisense TVs. Established in 2014; it has – in just six years – become a strong global contender in the smart TV platform space. In 2020, VIDAA introduced a completely new and revamped user interface named 4.0 which puts users and their way of consuming content at the core of the design. VIDAA is preinstalled on new Hisense TVs as well as Toshiba Smart TVs manufactured by Hisense.

While making the announcement, StarTimes Regional Marketing Director Mr. Aldrine Nsubuga noted that the online mobile application will continue to offer more than 150 local and international channels and 20,000 hours of on-demand programs covering religion, movies, TV series, news, kids’ shows, music, documentaries, and sports including the ongoing Euro 2020 and other European football competitions such as La Liga and FA Cup.

StarTimes ON streams content in various languages including English, French, Portuguese, Swahili, Hausa, Hindi, Yoruba, and Chinese where users accessing the premium content on the platform enjoy Standard Definition (SD), High Definition (HD) and Ultra High Definition (UHD) content providing access to live, replays and key highlights of the premium content at subscriber’s convenience.

Subscribers are also able to link their set top boxes to the application providing access to an electronic wallet that will facilitates subscription payment through either Co-operative, KCB bank, Equitel, Mpesa or Airtel money. Subscribers who recharge their accounts through the online application enjoy a 5% discount from their monthly subscription fee as well as other self-service options including change of bouquets and a review of their payment history for the pay television service.

With its user friendly design, the App streams content under 2G/3G or 4G networks with less data consumption of up to 30%.
