Latens BCAS integrated with GMI STBs to enable software security for cable networks

BELFAST, UK, & KAOHSIUNG HSIEN, Taiwan — Latens, the market leader in next generation software Conditional Access (CA) and Service Delivery Platforms for Pay- TV, and Good Mind Industries Co. Ltd. (GMI), the leading provider of broadcasting equipment, today announce that they have successfully partnered to offer a highly secure, cost effective set top box (STB) solution for operators of DVB-C networks. The integration of Latens BCAS with GMI further extends Latens ability to provide software only Conditional Access solutions to all Pay-TV operators.

Latens and GMI have worked together to ensure the tight integration of Latens BCAS solution with the GMI 8700 STB. For DVB-C networks the GMI 8700 supports standard definition MPEG-2, and provides operators with a highly secure and cost-effective STB solution to more efficiently roll out secured Pay-TV on ‘one-way’ networks.

Latens BCAS is the world’s first secure, downloadable, fully DVB compliant software-based Conditional Access System for Pay-TV broadcast networks over cable, satellite and digital terrestrial networks. BCAS highlights Latens ability to provide proven, innovative conditional access technology which allows Pay-TV operators to deliver content more securely and at a lower cost, enabling operators to increase their average revenue per user (ARPU).

“As a leading conditional access player in the market, Latens understands the complexity of successful mass deployment of security technology in the set-top box, so GMI is pleased to be integrated with Latens BCAS and to provide new solutions to operators. As Latens BCAS is the only effective software CAS solution for ‘one-way’ DVB-C networks, we are now able to offer a unique solution that is highly competitive and very cost effective, giving operators greater choice and flexibility when launching Pay-TV services,” said Jack Ho, Director, GMI. “Furthermore, Latens BCAS software solution enables operators to upgrade their offering in the future without any service disruption, leading to increased Quality of Service which is very important.”

“Latens is excited to work with GMI to offer cable operators next generation CAS and STB technologies that meet their needs for secure access to premium content, at a competitive cost. As more broadcast operators become increasingly aware of the cost advantages of software CA it is important that we are integrated with key set-top box manufacturers like GMI. This integration enables us to offer a robust and highly secure solution, with the power and performance to ensure that operators can launch Cable TV services that scale efficiently,” said Jean-Paul Heron, Client Integrations Manager, Latens. “I believe that this is the beginning of a strong and successful partnership and look forward to our continued work with GMI.”
