Switzerland digital TV: growth accelerates
Monday, September 8th, 2008
In Switzerland, about 22% of all TV households, or just under 700,000 homes, are equipped with digital television. This penetration is relatively low compared to neighbouring countries, however digital television is expected to experience strong growth in the coming years.
Over the past five months, Demoscope, on behalf of Swisscable, conducted two surveys devoted to digital television. Demoscope carried out a telephone survey of 800 and 1000 Swiss aged between 16 and 74 years. The surveys show that the growth of digital television doubled in 2007 (6%) compared to 2006 (3%). According to this trend, one can expect an enhanced growth of digital television in the coming years.
Swisscable, the Swiss cable TV industry association, estimates that 10% of digital TV households are equiped to receive HDTV programming.
